L'EVOLUZIONE DELLA LEGGENDA - I. Poesia dalla History of Middle Earth [7] Tinfang Warble

Tinfang Warble

O the hoot! O the hoot!
How he trillups on his flute!
O the hoot of Tinfang Warble!

Dancing all alone,
Hopping on a stone,
Flitting like a fawn,
In the twilight on the lawn,
And his name is Tinfang Warble!

The first star has shown
And its lamp is blown
to a flame of flickering blue.
He pipes not to me,
He pipes not to thee,
He whistles for none of you.
His music is his own,
The tunes of Tinfang Warble!

Tinfang Trillo

Firulì, firulì, firulà!
Come sul flauto gorgheggia!
È il fischiar di Tinfang Trillo!

Da solo danzando,
Sui massi balzando,
Come un cerbiatto sa sfrecciare
Sul prato all’imbrunire,
E il suo nome è Tinfang Trillo!

La prima stella s’è ormai mostrata
Con la sua lanterna sbocciata
In fiamma di tremulo azzurrino.
Non soffia per me,
Non soffia per te,
Per nessuno di voi fa concertino.
Sua soltanto è la musica intonata,
La melodia di Tinfang Trillo!
